Program Description

STEMscopes Math is a comprehensive, standards-aligned core mathematics curriculum for grades K through Algebra 1, developed by Accelerate Learning. Built around the 5E+IA instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate, plus Intervention and Acceleration pathways), the program supports whole-group instruction, small-group differentiation, and blended learning. It follows a Concrete-Representational-Abstract progression and integrates digital tools, including virtual manipulatives and PhET simulations, alongside print materials. All student resources are available in English and Spanish. Professional learning is offered in on-site, virtual, blended, and individual coaching formats.

Program Outcomes

One quasi-experimental study examined the impact of STEMscopes Math on STAAR Math achievement among 4th and 5th grade students in Texas public schools during the 2023-2024 school year. Controlling for baseline demographics and achievement, STEMscopes Math students (n = 1,807) scored significantly higher on the Spring 2024 STAAR Math assessment than comparison students (n = 2,209) across the combined grade sample (effect size = +0.19). A significantly higher percentage of STEMscopes Math students met or exceeded grade-level benchmarks compared to the comparison group (77% vs. 69%). Positive effects were also found for Economically Disadvantaged (effect size = +0.51), Hispanic (effect size = +0.35) and Black students (effect size = +0.74). These results qualify STEMscopes Math for a Promising rating.
