Program Description

Saxon Math is a scripted curriculum that blends teacher-directed instruction of new material with daily practice of previously learned concepts and skills. Students are explicitly taught efficient procedures for solving problems. Frequent monitoring and feedback are given to students on the correctness of their procedures and solutions.

Program Outcomes

One qualifying study compared Saxon Math to a more traditional textbook, Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley. Compared to controls, students in Saxon Math gained significantly more, with an average effect size of +0.11. This difference is statistically significant, and qualifies Saxon Math for the ESSA “Promising” category.
