Program Description
CAPIT Reading is a blended supplemental phonics program designed for all three tiers of instruction in PK-3 classrooms. It provides explicit, systematic phonics instruction through a Sound-to-Print approach, helping close reading gaps and improve student literacy outcomes.
Students begin with an assessment that places them at the appropriate level, allowing them to progress through the program at their own pace. Aligned with the Science of Reading, CAPIT covers essential literacy skills, beginning with foundational skills like decoding, encoding, and handwriting, and advancing to vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
CAPIT supports educators with professional development and ongoing coaching and integrates digital lessons with comprehensive lesson plans and scripted lessons for teachers to ensure effective instruction.
The competency-based digital platform provides students with individualized instruction and immediate feedback, while equipping educators with actionable data to guide their teaching practices.
Program Outcomes
The impact of the CAPIT Reading Curriculum was evaluated in a matched comparison study during the 2023–2024 school year in a large Florida district. The analysis compared 397 pre-kindergarten students who received CAPIT instruction to 397 demographically and academically similar peers. CAPIT students scored an average of 17.2 points higher on the FAST Star Early Literacy assessment (effect size = +0.19) and were more than twice as likely to meet the district’s kindergarten readiness benchmark. These results qualify CAPIT for a Moderate rating.
