Program Description
Bridges in Mathematics by MLC is a comprehensive preK–5 math curriculum that emphasizes conceptual understanding, fluency, discourse, and problem solving. Blending direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration, the Bridges curriculum includes whole-class, small-group, and independent activities. Lessons use visual models and hands-on manipulatives to support student learning and engagement. An integrated component, Number Corner, previews forthcoming content from the lessons, provides skill practice, and reinforces key mathematical concepts through daily activities. In addition to a variety of physical resources for the classroom, the curriculum also includes detailed teacher guides and student materials in print and digital formats.
Program Outcomes
A quasi-experimental study conducted during the 2013–2014 school year examined the impact of Bridges in Mathematics on math achievement for kindergarten through second-grade students in four school districts across three states. The study included 800 students in Bridges classrooms, matched through the NWEA Growth Research Database to a virtual comparison group with similar demographics and prior achievement.
Student performance was measured using the MAP for Primary Grades (MPG) math assessment. Results showed that Bridges students scored significantly higher than matched peers, with an overall effect size of +0.06. The findings qualify Bridges in Mathematics for a Promising rating.
Staffing Requirements
Each classroom package is designed for use by one preK–5 educator in a single classroom.
Professional Development/Training
With the adoption of Bridges in Mathematics, schools and districts receive a comprehensive Getting Started Experience for all teachers and instructional leaders during the first year of implementation. The full experience includes workshops delivered by Bridges educators, self-paced online courses, and informational videos. In addition, MLC offers a year-long training program for administrators who provide support to teachers in their school or district.
To support ongoing implementation, Bridges includes a set of curated professional learning materials designed to deepen educators’ understanding of the curriculum and highlight practices that support effective teaching and learning in Bridges classrooms.
Details about the Getting Started Experience are available via an informational video here.

Technology
The Math Learning Center provides access to all curriculum materials in a digital format through the Bridges Educator Site (BES), a web-based platform that operates on all modern browsers. Interactive display materials are also available on the BES, and optional digital manipulatives are available for use by teachers and students here.
