Program Description
Amplify’s Boost Reading (formerly Amplify Reading) is a student-facing, adaptive digital literacy intervention for students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. The program delivers systematic instruction in word recognition and language comprehension across two integrated components: a grade-level narrative storyline and an adaptive skills layer covering 13 literacy domains. The adaptive engine continuously adjusts task difficulty based on student performance, providing automated scaffolds and revisiting prerequisite skills as needed. An accompanying teacher dashboard provides automatic progress data and targeted offline instructional resources for teacher-led small-group intervention support. The program is aligned with Amplify CKLA and mCLASS, and recommends a minimum of 30 to 45 minutes of weekly use in Kindergarten through third grade and 40 to 60 minutes in fourth and fifth grades.
Program Outcomes
A national quasi-experimental study examined the impact of Amplify’s Boost Reading on the reading achievement of striving readers in Kindergarten through fifth grade during the 2024-2025 school year. The study compared over 300,000 program users to academically similar non-users in public schools across the United States, focusing on students who began the year below or well below grade level. Program users scored significantly higher than non-users on the end-of-year DIBELS reading assessment in every grade except third grade, where the difference was positive but not statistically significant. Effects were strongest in Kindergarten and fifth grade. Across the full Kindergarten through fifth grade sample, the weighted average effect size was +0.07. Students who used the program for at least 20 weeks at recommended levels showed substantially larger, significant gains for all grades (effect sizes ranging from +0.11 to +0.37). Results qualify Amplify’s Boost Reading for a Moderate rating.
