Program Description
Learning Genie is an AI-supported instructional planning and documentation platform for preschool through grade 12 that helps educators design and implement research-based, standards-aligned instruction using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. The system provides AI-assisted unit design and lesson-planning tools that support differentiation, inclusion, and alignment with high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), while enabling teachers to integrate student evidence, contextual learning needs, and learner profiles into planning. Learning Genie’s digital portfolios, DRDP-aligned assessment tools, and multimodal documentation features promote student-centered learning by capturing student voice and supporting the development of student agency. The platform also facilitates collaboration, bilingual family communication, and consistent reporting through data-system integrations.
Program Outcomes
Learning Genie was evaluated in a quasi-experimental study during the 2024–2025 school year with 366 prekindergarten and kindergarten students across multiple schools. The sample included a majority of Hispanic students, most from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Students who used Learning Genie showed greater growth on the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) in language and literacy (effect size = +0.12) and math (+0.12). Results on SEL outcomes were mixed, with scores on Social and Emotional Development showing the greatest gains. The study found significant positive effects at the student level but not at the classroom level, which qualifies Learning Genie for a Promising evidence rating.
Staffing Requirements
Classroom teachers use Learning Genie as part of their regular instructional and assessment workflow; no additional instructional staff are required. A site- or district-level implementation lead—such as an administrator, instructional coach, or data manager—typically coordinates account setup, SIS integration, and technical support during initial rollout.
Professional Development/Training
Initial training covers the use of observation-based assessment tools, DRDP documentation, lesson-planning workflows, and AI-supported instructional recommendations. Training can be delivered through on-site sessions, live virtual workshops, or recorded webinars, with access to self-paced support materials. Ongoing implementation and technical assistance are available throughout the school year.
Technology
Learning Genie is accessible through a web portal and mobile applications for iOS and Android. The program operates on standard classroom devices, including tablets, Chromebooks, and desktop computers using modern browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox. Schools require reliable internet access; additional technical specifications are provided in Learning Genie’s support documentation.
